The food guide pyramid was designed the US Department of Agriculture to promote healthy nutrition in children over the age of six. The pyramid emphasizes on the five major food groups, all of which are required for good health.
For proper child health and nutrition, you are going to have to make sure that they are eating food from all of the different food groups. However, you must keep in mind that a serving in the food pyramid is not equal to a portion you must eat in a single meal. For example, the pyramid says that you should eat about two to three servings of meat a day. This does not mean that you need to consume meat three different times in a day, but rather you may have all two to three servings in a single meal if it is in a five to seven ounce portion.
And also, for proper child health and nutrition, you are going to want to make sure that they are getting enough exercise as well. This is normally not a major issue to be concerned with, but with the rate obesity even affects children these days we should no longer turn a blind eye.
To give your child health and nutrition to keep healthy, you are going to want to keep them from spending hours on the computer or television. Instead, give them a time limit and make sure that they are doing something active. It can range from anything such playing outside with their friends to fun sports activities, such as football, baseball or basketball. Basically anything that will encourage them to get physical will be great for their overall health.
